Do You Need A Building Permit?
YOU NEED A BUILDING PERMIT IF:
  • You are building a new home.
  • You are making structural changes to your existing home, such as adding a room or a deck.
  • You are setting up manufactured housing.
YOU DO NOT NEED A BUILDING PERMIT IF:
  • You are making changes to your home such as painting, redecorating, adding a sidewalk, driveway or putting up a fence.
  • You are building a new home and have hired a licensed contractor to perform the work. The contractor is required to get the permit.

WHERE DO YOU GET A BUILDING PERMIT?

You must obtain a building permit from the municipality governing the area in which you will be performing the work. If your proposed work is in the following cities: Citronelle, Chickasaw, Saraland, Mobile, Prichard, Satsuma, Bayou La Batre, Creola, Dauphin Island or Mount Vernon, you must obtain a building permit from that municipality.

All other areas in Mobile County must obtain a building permit from:
