PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
"Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine." -- Lord
Byron
Affordable Cure
If a pill could save your life, would you take it? Most
people would say yes. But, the rising cost of prescription drugs forces many to
say no. National studies have shown that when low and moderate income
individuals are having trouble paying their bills that one of the first things
they often do is cut back on or eliminate medications.
But, thanks to the County's Prescription Drugs Assistance
Program, some area residents can now afford the medicines they need. Working
with Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy and Franklin Primary Health Center, the program
provides medication assistance for low-to-moderate income persons who have no
prescription drug coverage. Individuals living within the City of Mobile are
not eligible for this county program.
The Prescription Drugs Assistance Program is funded by a
Community Development Block Grant the County received from the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development. In the past year alone the program helped
more than 300 Mobile County residents get the medicine they need to treat heart
disease, high blood pressure, seizures and many other serious and chronic
conditions. This program has a significant impact on improved health outcomes
by bridging the gap between patient diagnosis and cure by providing access to
needed medicines for low and moderate income residents.
